Praise Etiosa Godswill (b. 1997, Atlanta, GA) works under the moniker Pegnosis, a synthesis of his initials and gnosis, meaning intuitive, experiential knowledge. Based in Columbus, Ohio, Godswill treats drawing and painting not as representation, but as a primary language of unlearning.

Working through stark tonal contrast, his paintings center on structural instability: forms coalesce, fracture, and reassemble under their own internal logic. Every canvas undergoes deliberate deconstruction: an image is built, stripped of its inherited expectations, and rebuilt from what survives. A piece is only complete once it has survived this dismantling.

Pegnosis posits that essential truths resist direct explanation, surfacing instead through instinct, repetition, and the deliberate surrender of control.
